This course is one of the best organized courses I have taken ever. Every week we need to join a two-hour lecture and a one-hour lab. The course Professional Communication is mainly teaching students how to construct their verbal and nonverbal communication skills to speak professionally.
Before having this course, I had never noticed that, professional communication is so closed to us. Talking to people, having a meeting, giving a presentation, having a phone call, sending an email, taking an interview, all these communications we have done before are parts of professional communication. We always thought as a student, it is justified for us to make mistakes when communicating. Only after this course, I started to realize that conversational communication is not only about the feelings. There are some rules can help us to decide what to say and how to deliver when communicate with people.
As an initiation of the course, we may learn the importance of communication and the types of communication. Following having a general impression of different kinds of communication channels, we would learn how to give an effective presentation. We also learned about the procedure of applying a job position professionally, with skills of well constructing our cover letter and resume. This course also includes the knowledge of professional writing and using different kinds of digital media. Finally, we may explore the mystery of having an interview.
Meanwhile, we have activities almost every two weeks, to examine or consolidate our understanding of the knowledge, for example, to do the 3D model game, to give a presentation, to tell a news and answer the questions and to simulate a real interview, etc. This is a supplementary reason that why I think the course is very well organized. With practical training, we can remember the knowledge better and obtain some reflections from the practicing. In addition, every one-hour course for writing a forum gave us a lot of interests to communicate. In this forum training, we met our classmates’ interesting experiences and their different thoughts. It was an unexceptionable way for us to enhance our positivism of speaking English.
At the end of this post, I have to say I am really touched and thankful to choose this course, even though on the first day of the course we would get frightened from the work lists, even though sometimes we need to have a rush on reading the textbook in the night for the other day’s class. I believe that, without working so hard and doing so much, I would have not found myself learning so much in the course. I feel very thankful for Darrell, Vincent and Jaffar’s instructions. I think I not only learned knowledge from them, but also learned a lot about positive attitudes from them.
I think there is no reason for me to resist recommending this course to other students. Finally, very glad to meet you all in this semester. I know for Darrell and Vincent, it is not that easy to repeat the same knowledge again and again in every semester. Things would get pretty boring. So, thank you very much for bringing us the course always with a new, curious and sharing mindset. I think we will never forget this wonderful course.
